The Christmas market in Lübeck's Old Town is popular with both residents and visitors from the surrounding area - it's not for nothing that the Hanseatic city is known as the "Christmas City of the North". If you want to visit the Christmas markets in a relaxed way, especially on Advent Saturdays, without having to worry about roadworks and searching for a parking space, you can use the free Christmas shuttle to the city center or use public transport to reach the old town comfortably and without having to change trains. The popular Christmas markets can be easily reached on foot in around 15 to 20 minutes from the main train station and central bus station.

Free Christmas shuttle from P+R parking lots

On Advent Saturdays, the free Christmas shuttle takes guests from 11.05 am to 8.35 pm from Lohmühle via Einsiedelstraße to the Christmas markets and back. The free shuttle bus runs every 10 minutes from the Lohmühle P+R parking lot (An der Hansehalle; BAB exit Lübeck-Zentrum) to the Einsiedelstraße P+R parking lot and from there non-stop to the Old Town. The Christmas shuttle serves the stops Sandstraße and Koberg/Königstraße directly at the Christmas markets.

From 8.49 p.m. to 10.09 p.m., the shuttle will then run every 20 minutes from the Sandstraße and Koberg/Königstraße stops to the Lohmühle and Einsiedelstraße P+R parking lots to take guests back to their vehicles after their visit.

The free offer is organized as part of the Christmas cooperation between Stadtwerke Lübeck Mobil, Lübeck-Travemünde Verkehrsgesellschaft (LVG), the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, Lübeck und Travemünde Marketing GmbH (LTM) and Lübeck Management.

Follow the directions of the parking guidance system

It is strongly recommended that you follow the parking guidance system. Free parking spaces are displayed here. Alternatively, a current overview of parking spaces is available at www.parken-luebeck.de can be called up. Special, smart LED signage will show drivers the way to the P+R parking lots and the free shuttle on Advent Saturdays, so that visitors don't get stuck in traffic jams in the first place.

Coaches can park in the designated parking areas on the central Wallhalbinsel near the Musik- und Kongreßhalle. Additional capacity is available there at the Lastadie motorhome parking area, which will be designated for coaches from November 25 to December 30, 2024 and will be closed to motorhomes during this period.

Notes on the changed traffic routing

Turning right from Holstenstraße into An der Untertrave will not be possible from November 25 to December 30, 2024.

Access to Lübeck city center from Gustav-Radbruch-Platz via Große Burgstraße is designated as a dead end from Beckergrube. It is not possible to drive through the city center from Burgtor or for buses and trucks to turn around. During the Christmas market, the Beckergrube/Breite Straße/Pfaffenstraße junction will remain open to pedestrians.

The opening times for delivery traffic and bicycle traffic in the Breite Straße pedestrian zone will change as follows from November 25 to December 30, 2024

·         Markttwiete, Fleischhauerstraße, Dr.-Julius-Leber-Straße, Mengstraße, Breite Straße:
Delivery traffic free from 5 to 10.30 am and 10 to 11 pm

·         Fleischhauerstraße, Mengstraße, Breite Straße, Hüxstraße, Dr.-Julius-Leber-Straße: bicycle traffic free from 10 p.m. to 10.30 a.m.

The upper Dr. Julius-Leber-Straße between Königstraße and Breite Straße will become a dead end for vehicle traffic, while pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access Breite Straße.
